Parking in Sanford

Public-Private Parking Collaboration to Increase Parking Availability on Sanford Avenue

The City of Sanford recently entered into a 2-year parking agreement to utilize a large parcel of land to provide more free public parking to visitors of Historic Downtown Sanford! This move improves easy access specifically to ever-growing Sanford Avenue and Historic Downtown Sanford overall.

The new lot will be located Cypress and Sanford Avenue next to the San Leon Apartments and Jaly Supermarket. Early plans call for lot access to be available this summer, with access for vehicles via Cypress Ave.

In order to make this lot available, the City entered into a voluntary demolition agreement with owner and removed an old structure located at 215 Sanford Avenue.

The agreement specifies grassed parking, but discussion in City Hall is ongoing regarding the final plan for the lot. Millings, parking stops, and lighting are all issues being discussed internally. As more guests continue to come #Sanfording, parking is an increasingly important issue for city leadership to address. While longer-term and larger projects are needed to accommodate our growing popularity (what a great problem to have!) this public-private collaboration is a welcome addition.
