Kathryn Smith - Sanford Florida

The Sanford Historical Society presents Kathryn Smith

The Sanford Historical Society presents Kathryn Smith, who will sign copies of her book, Gertie; The Fabulous Life of Gertrude Sanford Legendre, Heiress, Explorer, Socialite, Spy.   Ms Legendre was the granddaughter of Henry Sanford, founder of the City of Sanford.

She was a daring explorer and was the first American woman in uniform held as a POW by the Germans in WW II.  She befriended and reveled with the Fitzgeralds, Albert Schweitzer, Lilly Pulitzer, Bing Crosby, and George Patton.

Enjoy tea and light refreshments while wearing a favorite hat to celebrate Gertie’s unique life style.
